and it’s not just developing artists this is hurting. look at the streams of a-list artist catalog tracks whose resurgence can be fully traced back to the clock app. no one here is being protected other than shareholders.

most developing artists signed to major labels are sitting at home with their ring lights for hours a day making content themselves in the hopes that people see it in order to market music owned by their labels… but the label wants to be paid (more) for this too….

so let's just be clear: labels sign artists based off of success on tiktok, then use tiktok as the main focus of their marketing efforts -- much of which is put on the artists themselves to do -- to drive streams, and then decide they're not making enough money from tiktok so…
