I wish Chatgpt / GPT models were better at generating PDFs! The python code (usually reportlab) to PDF approach is elegant but really hard to control and of course, only good for very functional output.

Tip: You don't need python-dotenv, use "uv run" with --env-file, and your env vars from .env get loaded. For example, if you've got a @FastAPI project you can run it locally with env vars like: uv run --env-file .env fastapi dev

Al demos are magical till you notice the cherry-picked prompts, the just-right data, the happy paths avoiding all edge cases. Progress is real, but I often feel that the demos are trying to measure up to the hype, which in turn just feeds the hype. Vicious cycle.

Cheap inference doesn't make small-model stacks free. You just move spend into orchestration, evals, and edge-case handling. Default to the most capable model you can afford, then specialize only where it clearly pays.

There exists a subrosa way to access expertise in many places, often phrased as “I’ve got a guy.” Frequently the guy is either not a credentialed expert or not able to participate in the institutionally blessed high-friction fashion, but can nonetheless sanity check, etc.
