Understandably, with the news of my Dads terminal illness I have received a flood of “if there is anything you need” messages. What I need is to know the world is still turning outside this hospital room. A reminder that life is still happening while mine feels like it’s ending.

I live in jeans but a few weeks ago I went to Kmart and bought some tracky daks and pyjama pants knowing I was gonna be staying home a lot and have worn nothing else since until today when I put my old jeans on and was like “FUCKING LEG PRISONS, I CAN BARELY MOVE!!!”

Smart businessman husband is also working from home today. I connected his wifi, troubleshooted a website error, recommended some free online resources and pointed him towards the toilets for good measure. I’ve still got it! #librarylife

Management gave us 30mins notice that we were no longer permitted to work from our building and we are all required to work from home. “Take your phones and laptops and continue your work.” We have neither, and Library work is far more complex than that. Sigh

Have been saying “I’m fine” all week. Looking for positives, doing what I can for staff morale etc. Just realised I haven’t had more than 3 hours sleep per night since.... Sunday? Restrictions only started a week ago. Already feels like 6 months.

A patron rang wanting a to use a photocopier to copy his sick certificate and finished by telling me he didn’t believe in viruses. This now becomes reason 1178 of why Libraries need to be closed. #closethelibraries

My brother is a videographer and has lost $30k in projected income from cancellations. This week he has two new contracts with local funeral homes to film/stream funeral services. Losing income is tough. #Covid_19 restricting funerals is tougher.

In situations such as these people reveal who they really are. Turns out our dear friend is stockpiling food and medicine. Cupboards of it. I thought my people were better than that. Ugh.

We are now closing indefinitely... in four days time. Had some of the loveliest conversations with patrons today. Said goodbye to our volunteers for who knows how long. Our hearts are so very heavy. #closethelibraries

Politely presenting numerous reasons to patron why staff don’t sit down and watch returned DVDs to check for scratches/damage before putting them on display. VS yelling “DO YOU WANT A REFUND ON THAT FREE DVD?!” Sometimes is a VERY hard choice #library life
