.@ring refused to cancel sending a fire truck after a mistaken CO alarm test. They claim “the regulations where you live require the fire dept to check every CO alarm.” No such law here, and fire dept canceled when I called directly. Burdening users and fire depts needlessly.

If you think people have scar tissue, you should see organizations. Each time there's a disaster, they create a process to prevent future disasters of that type. Eventually they accrete a thick layer of these processes that prevents them from moving. Then they die.

This paper describes the most cyberpunk (or biopunk?) malware attack. A virus was encoded in a strand of DNA - but it was a computer virus. When run through a DNA sequencer, the synthetic code could be executed, which could be used to control the sequencer dnasec.cs.washington.edu/dna-sequencing…
