Hurricane Hunters are specialized military and civilian aircrews who fly directly into tropical cyclones to gather critical, real-time weather data. Operating highly instrumented aircrafts, they deploy sensors like dropsondes into the eye of the storm to measure wind speed, air pressure, temperature, and humidity from the inside out. This extreme, hands-on data collection provides the precise information needed to build accurate forecasting models, predict a storm's path and intensity, and issue life-saving evacuation warnings.
A rare trio of powerful storms, featuring Category 5 Hurricane Lowell alongside Karina and Marie, is currently churning simultaneously across the Pacific Ocean due to unusually warm waters.
