7 These officers will be there for us and they will always run towards danger for us. Cumbria, and from what I saw, the rest of the country, is well served by dedicated men and women, ordinary people doing extraordinary things, for and on behalf of us. Thank you for your service

6. I have served, but am truly humbled by the stories of Thursday night and the acts of bravery I heard and these are just a snapshot of what is, I'm afraid, normal business every day for officers up and down the country.
5 The stories provided on the night were shocking but showed that we have, still, officers who will put their lives on the line to protect others.
4 What is remarkable is that we have officers who are willing, day in, day out, to run towards danger, to put themselves, literally, in the line of fire to protect you, me and our families and friends - people they have never met.
3 They both stated they were doing their job. They ran towards danger and saw it as their duty to do so. Interestingly, these words were used by almost all award nominees on the night - 'they were just doing their job'
2 but I would not (and forgive me here) describe the officers themselves as remarkable. Courageous, brave, dedicated and committed, yes, but just two normal police constables who found themselves in an extraordinary situation and dealt with it incredibly bravely.

Out tonight with Cumbria Constabulary’s Roads Policing Unit, Neighbourhood Policing Teams and local volunteers in and around Kirkby Stephen. Working together to tackle rural crime affecting the area. Really good to see the joint work and the impact it is having.
