Universities reward scientists for how effectively they can package themselves and their work to enhance an institutional brand that can be monetized. The underlying science is secondary, if relevant at all. In biology, much of the fundamental work has been forgotten. The money and prestige now go either toward presenting routine findings as cures for disease or presenting upper corporate administration with a carefully staged image of a diverse scientific workforce.
@LocasaleLab One things that stuns me about this is that it doesn't matter just how many press releases come out about some supposed breakthrough that we never hear of again, it works every time. Not just in medicine, but in basically every other area. Battery breakthroughs, PFAS, quantum

A first date happening next to me, I'm hoping they make it. I'm feeling happy & grateful for all of this, human civilization, life on Earth, a spinning rock in space. There are 100-400 billion other planets in our galaxy alone. And there are ~2 trillion galaxies in just the observable universe. And somehow we have a chance to crack open the mysteries of the universe, to solve physics, biology, intelligence, to understand our own mind, to travel out toward the stars. And at the same time, we often bicker about the stupidest shit. The whole thing is hilarious and beautiful. All of this is a miracle ❤️ PS: It's definitely the caffeine speaking 🤣
Luck is self-respect for your own time: people waste so much time arguing about things that don't matter, building relationships with people who don't care, living in places where they feel no connection, and investing in everything but in their talents, their vision, their future

Very humbling when you see the problem and know the solution, but you just don't have the courage to face it. Fun life.
The older you get, the more obvious it becomes that you always knew what you wanted from life, it might have been freedom from "the system," it might have been an athletic and charismatic version of yourself, it might have been unlimited time to read novels or write your own, it might have been building a family with someone you love in every aspect, it might have been moving to a certain country and living an unpredictable adventure;
No point on rushing things. Been here before. Testimony to my growth, I'll let time pass and know whatever is will be.
