Granted, choreography debates are pedantic, but you don't need slo-mo to see the missed cues in The Last Jedi. In the theater, I looked at my dad laughingly because I genuinely thought they accidentally put an outtake in the final print. I mean, life goes on but still.

The more I think about The First Omen, the more I'm annoyed. I almost can't believe they retconned the original's most dramatic scene because they wanted to make a movie about patriarchy and rape and just needed to ... make it fit? If that's the case, just make an original movie.

The main issue is cutting between two inferior sequences - Jar-Jar's droid battle and Anakin's joyride - which cuts its tension. But this DOES have something the over-rendered sequels lack - a sense of daunting fairytale adventure. It's an entire swashbuckler arc in 5 minutes.

Shang Chi being "amazing" is just a testament to where we are now with comic book movies vs 20 years ago. The lows were lower, yes, but the highs were higher. If you take RISKS, you're going to get Fantastic Four sometimes. Or Halle Berry's Catwoman. But you'll also get cinema.

I'd enforce trilogy planning. Johnson condensed what should have been The Rise of Skywalker into The Last Jedi's 4th act. I've never seen a director destruct a trilogy because they wanted THEIR movie to be the ending. Stopping that is my one change so THIS would end the saga:

Not that I approve of the OP's behavior, but the sooner the better when we realize that this reply is just the reverse side of the same behavior coin.

@filmobjective You can feel that DOD is *pretend* TV dinner Spielberg. There's *none* of his patented joy, even in DOD's micro-est of moments.
@filmobjective This is the only action sequence in the whole film that isn't ruined by poorly composited CG or is actually filmed in a real place and not a studio backlot. It's a great scene, but it is ignorant to say the rest of the movie is like this. DoD has better stuff overall than KotCS
@filmobjective I was never sold on Anakin thinking the Jedi were his enemy. "From my point of view, the Jedi are evil" was a weak comeback. The premise of him torn between two masters and vulnerable being in a forbidden relationship was solid enough. Just needed more gravitas I reckon.

Been replaying Zelda: A Link Between Worlds on my 3DS XL lately - 3D slider cranked way up bc of course. A) It’s still incredible. B) 3DS rules because despite being smaller than the Switch it’s actually a lot more comfortable to hold. Switch hurts my hands, the 3DS doesn’t. 🤷♂️

@filmobjective Batman & Robin. That movie was the subject of ceaseless scrutiny by my friends and I in high school. Back then, we didn’t know how good we had it. I still don’t think it’s good, but I can find so much to appreciate in how fun it is.
@filmobjective Right? It's that super-long moment of QUIET when Superman wrestles with his emotions that makes his anguish so deafening. Movies these days tend to skip right past the moments that matter.

@filmobjective That's a more than decent thought. Seems like there was a quick pace for major FF releases in the past whereas they take longer to come out now? There is a lot of FF now, though, but yeah I don't remember this narrative when My Life As A King hit the Wii lol
Castlevania Symphony of the Night turns 27 years old today. What else is there to say? It's still one of the best games in the Castlevania series and deserves to be played even if you have only a passing interest... One of the greatest video games of all time. Period.
THE observation about modern Final Fantasy you need to hear: There's an odd insecurity to narratives surrounding FF right now. Posts constantly craft a narrative about a game "feeling" like "real" FF, asserting the new hotness is "easily the best" when it's not even been played…
