When you want to apply a tint color, instead of multiplying the colors like: col.rgb * TINT,
Try using power with the TINT as the exponent:
col.rgb = pow(col.rgb, 1.5-TINT);
We have to invert the tint so that darker channels are held to a higher exponent (diminish faster)
