If you ever had a great manager in the past who has helped you: one way to "pay it back" is to pay it forward. If and when you become a manager yourself, try to do the *good* stuff you experienced first-hand. It's so much easier when you've seen what "good" is, close-up.
My first manager at Uber started a GitHub page back at the time with resources to become a more proficient developer - ones he personally found helpful (he did not have a CS degree). I realized he is *still* updating it, 7 years later! A neat list: github.com/charlax/profes…
Like it or not, we are going down this path. One thing that will be interesting: how much will it *actually* cost to train, and operate these AI tools, and how will it weigh up to the usefulness of them? And how will performance change, over time? x.com/SamehIbra/stat…
It is a matter of wether the costs of the compute of a good performance level becomes lower than salary & associated IC costs. However, even then, judgement remains irreplaceable & the training data is systematically self-cannibalised over time.

Every company can't afford to pay you what you're worth. It isn't personal. Just business.
This is unfortunately how the game works. Most companies are not set up to retained high performing, ambitious talent, mainly because of how job ladders are structured, and the compensation models attached to them.
I like comments like these because it shows a philosophical difference in how we build developer tools. IMHO the current landscape of cloud native tools is yaml + duct tape. It's lego pieces without instructions.

I’m not saying I’m the norm, but the way my team busts their asses for me & how invested I am in doing whatever I can to help them stay happy in their careers, I’d help them find their next role if they felt they’ve outgrown our world.
I don't care how tight or cool you are with your Manager. It's always in your best interest to keep your job search private.
