Dutch. Everyone can plan, most can implement, almost nobody sustains. I build what sustains: Pelgrim, Silicon Almanac. 30 yrs ops, 5 companies. Extreme sports.jorgjansen.com NetherlandsJoined March 2022
@JoyBoyBuild The review before send is the part I'd keep forever. Each of my products has its own MCP server so Claude reads the real data, but the send button stays mine. How long does reviewing a batch of 19 take you now?
@OneMileataTime My Dutch reflex: never subscribe to something the seller can reprice. You pay a fixed price per mile, and Flying Blue decides every day what a mile buys. Hard pass.
@berkun I read Meditations and later The Obstacle Is the Way. Same Stoic ideas. Marcus wrote notes to himself and never gave steps. Holiday wrote for readers who want steps. Philosophy leaves you the question. Self-help hands you the answer.
@patkua Meadows in Thinking in Systems: the structure produces the behaviour. Swap the person, keep the structure, and you get the same incident with a new name on it. Owning it as the leader is the only way the structure gets fixed.
@davidburkus My first mentor as a junior manager said "cancelling a 1:1 for an escalation needs a damn good story, told to the person". One of my best managers rescheduled often, but always told me in advance. A 1:1 that slips costs a little. One that slips silently costs trust.
@nicopuhlmann Fair trade. I went the other way: one Hetzner box per product, PHP and Python, backups to Backblaze. Managed infra buys you sleep. Owning it buys me a bill I can predict. Both are a choice of which worry you keep.
I cut cable in 2015 and have only streamed since.
My 9 services cost EUR 88 a month at their launch prices.
The same stack costs EUR 149 today.
Same yearly increase as history gives EUR 386 by 2036.
SkyShowtime launched at EUR 6.99 in 2022. My 4K plan now costs EUR 13.99.
December 2007, I signed up as @jorgjansen. My first tweet was "Exploring Twitter". 3,051 tweets later, I deleted the account. Today I got the handle back. 12 followers. Exploring again.
@chinoalemano@netcup@Hetzner_Online Everything I build runs on Hetzner too. It's the same pattern as my streaming subscriptions. They started at EUR 2 to 6 a month. Now most cost EUR 15 to 25. Small bills grow quietly. Do you track cost per project, or just the total?
@VoyageBliss Marriott lifetime here, and Singapore is a regular work stop. My last 4 stays there were outside Marriott. Since dynamic pricing I barely look at points. No US card bonuses in the Netherlands. For me Bonvoy is lounges and a lucky upgrade. A Ritz might bring me back.
@UniBananStates Weak forecaster, strong orchestrator' matches what I see in cost work. AI finds the patterns and runs the steps. A simple baseline still decides if a forecast is any good. Did a critic step catch the reporter's wrong conclusion?
@okarabuilds Deciding what to ship was always the product manager's job. I write the requirements, Claude Code builds. Say 'my team built it' and people praise the product. Say 'AI built it' and they skip the deciding part.
@CSS976 I never trust a green light on its own. I look at the driver tree behind it. I once saw total revenue on target for a company with 9 shops. 2 shops made 5 times their target. The other 7 were far below. Management and the owner had no idea.
@PawanDurani The part I keep thinking about: could an AI agent do that checking role? Look at where we already are today and how people use AI. I see a route where that becomes possible.
