After 10 weeks, the strike is over! We are thrilled to announce that we have reached a tentative agreement with @Columbia. This is a historic moment for labor in higher ed, and it is just the beginning. We look forward to getting back to work and compensation for our back work.
We are on strike (1) because of Columbia's unfair labor practices and (2) because we deserve a living wage, comprehensive healthcare, and protection from discrimination and harassment. #CUonStrike

"To do science is to be a social actor engaged, whether one likes it or not, in political activity"
One of the greatest passages from Richard Lewontin's 'Dialectical Biologist' (1985)
Here’s what I said:
“…We have a hundred years of evidence for what happens when social outcomes are attributed to genetic differences, and it is always to stigmatize, control, and punish the people predicted to have socially devalued traits.” newyorker.com/magazine/2021/…
Remember the Human Genome Project? It never actually finished sequencing the human genome. I wrote about the grassroots effort that finally put together all the missing pieces

Big update: Pittsburgh police used the controversial facial recognition app Clearview over the course of a year, including following last summer's BLM protests. Accessing the tech violated the police bureau's own policy and, in later instances, city law. publicsource.org/pittsburgh-pol…
I so love and value my @KenyonCollege education, which taught me to to think critically and to consider broad cultural movements as well as small, vital details. it's the kind of education that makes it easy to see how important it is for Kenyon to recognize @kswoc
Power concedes nothing without a demand. Unions help bring democracy to the workplace. If you're thinking about unionizing your workplace, know there are many behind you. Unions give workers a voice over their job conditions and their lives.
Have you noticed that people only get mad when marginalized people bend the language? EVERYONE changes the language to suit their needs. It’s just stigmatized with POC, working class people, and teens do it.
We have reached a tentative agreement! After 16 months of bargaining and years of organizing we have won important improvements to our rights and working conditions. Please join us for a town hall Wed, 7/1 at 6:00pm. Register here: bit.ly/3eQ8vsP More details to follow.
The tl;dr here is that it's turning out to be a good night if you are a female candidate running with progressive support and without the Democratic committee endorsement.
