You know how you get farmers and ranchers to use mandatory EID tags? You give them money for heifer retention under the basis they use EID tags and can track the cattle they are paying money for. Exact same as the crop insurance requirement for FSA program payments.

You don’t have to wake up and feed a futures contract in shitty weather and the breakeven is cheaper than a lot of breakevens on physical calves….. only potential thing that it might need fed is margin money.
