If your Christianity causes you to be offended by someone asking the most powerful person in the country to be merciful towards the powerless, then you have deeply, deeply misunderstood the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Wow. A bishop just called out Trump and Vance to their faces at church. “The vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. May I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those whose children fear their parents will be taken away.”

New Year’s resolution: be less emotionally dependent on football.

@united Bummer United can’t help track my luggage when my flights were booked through you. Maybe @united can provide a number or contact for @AirCanada that will actually answer?

@AirCanada first time flying United and Air Canada. All Austin passengers bags were left in Houston and didn’t make it to Vancouver. We’re all here for Taylor Swifts concert. HELP!! I’m not able to get an update on my bag status

THIRTEEN YEARS AGO TODAY: I still don't have the words to describe the generational tornado outbreak of April 27, 2011. In Alabama, 62 tornadoes touched down. A total of 252 were killed, over one thousand more injured. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Rick Bragg is a gifted writer, and his words in Southern Living written after that horrible day perhaps are appropriate: "Where the awful winds bore down, massive oaks, 100 years old, were shoved over like stems of grass, and great pines, as big around as 55-gallon drums, snapped like sticks. Church sanctuaries, built on the Rock of Ages, tumbled into random piles of brick. Houses, echoing with the footfalls of generations, came apart, and blew away like paper. Whole communities, carefully planned, splintered into chaos. Restaurants and supermarkets, gas stations and corner stores, all disintegrated, glass storefronts scattered like diamonds on black asphalt. It was as if the very curve of the Earth was altered, horizons erased altogether, the landscape so ruined and unfamiliar that those who ran from this thing, some of them, could not find their way home. We are accustomed to storms, here where the cool air drifts south to collide with the warm, rising damp from the Gulf, where black clouds roil and spin and unleash hell on Earth. But this was different, a gothic monster off the scale of our experience and even our imagination, a thing of freakish size and power that tore through state after state and heart after Southern heart, killing hundreds, hurting thousands, even affecting, perhaps forever, how we look at the sky." We have learned much over the last 13 years about the event; involving both physical science and social science. We must take the lessons learned to help mitigate loss of life during every severe weather event. Days like April 27, 2011 come along in Alabama once about every 40 years, but we will be better even on "routine" severe weather days thanks to what we have learned after April 27, 2011.

I feel like we’re not talking enough about the fact that the Alabama Supreme Court quoted the Bible and cited the “wrath of God” as their legal reasoning for why frozen embryos are in fact “children.”

Gun laws in Missouri: No background checks for private sales. No permit required for concealed carry. No permit required for open carry. No license required for owners. No firearm registration. No assault weapon law. No magazine capacity restriction.

This piece by Rick Bragg is one of the best things ever written on Nick Saban and why his arrival in Tuscaloosa meant so much to so many. Rereading it again today. "We had 92,000," he said, "for a scrimmage." si.com/college/2014/0…

April 27, 2011 changed Coach Saban. It created a bond between him and the people of Tuscaloosa, and I believe that pretty much guaranteed he would finish the rest of his career there. I wish him well in retirement; I will miss our radio shows together in the fall and all of the weather briefings before games.

Remember, the nationwide emergency alert test is today at 1:20p CT. A few notes… *If you have a hidden phone due to a domestic violence/abuse situation, be sure and power the phone down completely. And, be aware the tone could sound when you turn the phone back on. *The tone you will hear is the same one used for tornado warnings, high impact flash flood warnings, and amber alerts. It is nothing new. *You will NOT hear the loud tone for 30 minutes. It will be the same short burst you receive for tornado/flash flood warnings. *Please don’t turn off emergency alerts on your phone. If you do that, you will miss tornado warnings. And, miss the chance to help someone with a child that has been kidnapped when an amber alert is issued. WEA alerts always need to be ON. *There is also an EAS (Emergency Alert System) portion of the test that local radio/TV stations will air. *You won’t turn into a zombie, and today doesn’t mark the beginning of World War 3. Please don’t listen to the imbeciles on TikTok.

Nashville Mayor John Cooper: “In Tennessee, we've been rolling back gun laws & making guns almost ubiquitous. It makes guns first of mind when people are thinking about doing terrible things. And we've got we've got to make that clearly more difficult. We owe it to the parents.”

Who’s still without power? Just checked the Austin Energy outage map and there are still 143,000 customers without power.
