Leaving aside the “Vandalism” stuff for a brief moment: President Trump’s claims today that the reflecting pool “never opened” or was “rarely open” after the Obama repair project are just not true. It’s been open for the vast majority of days since the project ended in August 2012, with some short closures since (including one in October 2012) for maintenance and further repairs.

Trump’s egregious (repeat) lie about Jan. 6 in the new NBC interview he walked out of: “They had FBI agents ushering them into the building. They had FBI: ‘Go into the building.’” There’s precisely no evidence this happened. DOJ’s inspector general found that the FBI had zero undercover agents in the Capitol crowd. Kash Patel has himself debunked a Trump-promoted conspiracy theory on this subject, saying FBI agents were merely deployed to do crowd control after the police declared a riot. And of the dozens of Jan. 6 defendants who tried a “the cops let me in” defense, just one (1) was acquitted. Even in that case, the acquitting judge said that though the defendant reasonably believed he was being allowed in, the officers in question were actually overrun by the crowd and standing back reasonably and responsibly, not explicitly encouraging anyone to enter. (And they weren’t FBI.)

Again, so much vaccine misinformation from the president. Kids don’t get anywhere close to “88” or “82” vaccines. They aren’t given “a vat” or “big glass of water”; vaccine doses are a tiny fraction of a teaspoon. Sen. Tim Scott said on TV today that “gas prices continue to come down.” They’ve actually gone up over the last day, week, month, year, and since the Iran war started in February. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said on TV today that gas prices are way down from “two years ago,” when they were “$6.” They’re actually up substantially from two years ago, when the national average was $3.66.
