We took time to practice mindfulness today by focusing on our rainbow breath, visualizing and relaxing our bodies through posture and stretching.

Today we used evidence based Literacy diagnostics with @MrGillespieLDSB in Grade 1. Great learning by comparing our observations to learn more about student strengths and gaps. Such a treat to learn more and do better!!

Before reading non-fiction text about Energy Chains, students activated prior knowledge using key vocabulary in the text. We also practiced using this key vocabulary while sharing our Energy Chains we created during follow-up task.
We had the cutest visitor today in Grade 1 (baby Olivia). We activated our prior knowledge about Babies and practiced asking good questions and making connections. We used a KWL chart to plan our final written response about Olivia.

Yup! Intellectually engaged in content learning is not the same as physical engagement...we need to be careful not to confuse the fačade we observe with substantive learning.
@heymrsbond The problem is that many admins and teachers believe that engaged means physically doing fun things, rather than engaged refer to cognitively engaged with the focus on the content that we're trying to teach (rather than the focus on the gamification aspect).
