shoutout to @PyTorch `torch.unique_consecutive` for making `groupBy` operations in torch super convenient. the semantics are the same as `itertools.groupby` in the standard lib. here, grouping by the 1st col of a tensor [limitation: this method only works for groupBy on 1 col]:
