Interest rates are surging and the US 5-30yr curve is inverted for the 1st time since 2016. BOJ stands ready to buy unlimited 10yr JGBs at 0.25% for the next 3 sessions. Today it bought ~$525 mln. Big euro option expirations at $1.10 next 4 sessions. marctomarket.com/2022/03/yields…

FWIW, early indications seem to suggest new variant may have been around for bit b4 SAfrica sequenced it. Symptoms appear mild even if more contagious. Vaccines may still be effective. Suggests outsized pre-weekend moves may correct.

Gone mostly without comment, the ave weekly hrs rose by 12 minutes. It doesn't sound like much, but assuming 155 mln employees, this turns into the equivalent output of 31 mln hours. And with the 34.8 hr work week, it is about 890k full-time equivalents.

The arguments that people use are a reflection of their knowledge and character. I always appreciate a good counterargument if I can tell it's from a knowledgeable, intellectually honest source. Stress test your ideas, discuss them, and be able to argue the opposite side.

This week brought welcome bullish news. The high yield bond A-D Line finally made a new all-time high. That has been missing lately. HY bonds behave more like stocks than like bonds, and they are among the 1st to suffer from illiquidity problems. A new high says all is good.
