The most valuable thing a marketer can hear from their leaders is: Do less, better. Instead, most marketers I speak to right now are hearing the age-old: Do more, with less. Follow leaders who encourage you to drill down on the 20% of things that will yield 80% of the results.

People follow brands because the brands serve them (i.e. transactional, situational needs that are met). People keep following brands because the brand holds and communicates core values (i.e. inspirational, non-compromising beliefs and missions).

Buyers want to completely own the research, discovery, and purchase all on their own. And they're really smart. Let them. Marketers—be more available and helpful, less controlling and stingy.
