Untamed (Netflix): Routine mystery, but has two things going for it: jaw-dropping scenery, and a great performance from Lily Santiago as an LA cop turned rookie ranger.

FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS [A-]: Not a high bar to clear; but best FF film by a country mile. KIrby is a fantastic Sue Storm; this is the first time I've actually liked Pedro Pascal, since his take on Reed Richards as an emotionally bottled autist is decent.

Aubrey Plaza, as an actress, has the very weird quality in every movie indicating that she's having the absolute time of her life, despite her mien not deviating from a cynical deadpan. (This is not a knock; I love her -- but well, it's a thing.)

I haven't seen MEGALOPOLIS (and I can imagine hating it; ask me what I think about ONE FROM THE HEART), but the sheer vitriol from the Hollywood trades gets my gander up.

Having seen some of Taylor Swirt's most recent music videos; I really wonder what a feature film she directed would look like -- it'd be maximally feminine/feminist; and wildly CGI visual. I'm just not sure if she has any idea when she could use to make a coherent feature film.

The weirdest thing about the LISA FRANKENSTEIN trailer -- the credit for Diablo Cody "Acclaimed writer of JENNIFER'S BODY". That's the least critically praised screenplay she's written, right?

The four new Wes Anderson films on Netflix and very much of a piece; together, the best use of the narrative voice in a film project ever; and the five main actors do stupendous work throughout. Best single performance: Rupert Friend in THE SWAN.
