woah woah. my mythosomatics teacher (Josh Schrei) expects that in 10-20 years, we’ll see a cultural shift *away* from tech and phones, simply because the present state is “not somatically tenable” or it’ll be similar to ‘fire’ which lives in ‘fireplaces’ and not elsewhere

ive been reflecting on the “right to be” - my sense/experience is that in the culture here (whatever here means), people dont have the right to exist. you dont have the right to simply be, you have to justify and earn your existence, you have to be producing something of value
where i used to relate to this with resentment, i now mostly feel sadness, a desire to grab people and shake them and say “you have a right to exist you dont have to justify yourself to me or anyone”
you need to wave your accolades in front of someone just to earn their attention just to be seen. it feels like it permeates every interaction, this background burden of needing to justify existence. which isn’t the case in much of the world.

Anxious partners too, actually. It's a really sticky part of the situation. If we don't feel safe enough in ourselves to show what's authentically going on, the best we can hope for is acceptance & love of our protections. That leaves the parts that need soothing very untouched.
This feels like it's important to remember about avoidant partners. Acceptance and love that's given to a false, inauthentic self doesn't actually satisfy and feel great, even if the false, inauthentic self is the only thing being presented.
@yassoma hmm more like… where receiving positive attention is associated (internally/historically &/or externally/presently) w/ a need to be different, it’s a false self/not-“self” that’s actually the recipient of that attention, so the self doesn’t receive something to be grateful for.
5 years ago i might have been really excited to call this a common knowledge cascade, these days i'd call say yeah, love is embodied in ritual, each act makes the relationship more real to both bodies
Until reading @SimonDeDeo’s recent tweet, I’d never considered falling in love as a common knowledge cascade. Kinda feels like it might explain what’s happening here. Are these birds “developing common knowledge of their pair bond”?
oh I got one! I got a gripe abt SF. SF culture really privileges the kinda impact that comes from "good" doing & building wayyy over "good" being. Not a lot of insight into interconnectedness here so I see very few people who assign equal moral value to good, quiet, rural living
in my mind I find it just as valuable being a quiet but positive presence in a small neighborhood as it is to build safe AGI. Not bc I think AGI isn't worth many brownie points but bc I think few of us fully grok how beneficial it can be to be a good cultural exemplar ANYWHERE
Also to be clear: good doing & building is genuinely good. It's the kinda shit that lifts ppl outta poverty & creates new tech + creates a sense of self-purpose. I love it - I spend most of my time in "good doing mode"
To fully own where this tweet came from: I feel like I repress 1/2 of me when I'm just in SF & I value the part of me that wants to be a quiet no one in the middle of nowhere. I plan to spend much more time in the coming years traveling & in nature to balance my soul's yearnings

@relic_radiation I don't think a restriction ever starts as "purely mechanical." But it's possible that in other work and processing the emotional or mental charge already processed through and it's only the structural component is left. Release structure, then somatic, then structure, repeat.
