Managing doctors appointments should not feel like a full time job.
“Your cancer journey is so inspiring” thanks it’s literally killing me
I just heard a patient refer to having cancer as "being evicted from their own life" and I'm going to need a minute because that's profound and heartbreaking.
Having cancer makes you follow your medical chart and insurance claims the way you used to follow social media.
I wish I had a support system to help me through this.
The new CDC COVID prevention guidelines contain several recommendations that stigmatize immunocompromised people and place the burden on those most impacted and least resourced. That’s the opposite of public health. Our attitude should be “No one is safe until everyone is safe.”
Brain cancer is fun because you look & act normal until someone asks you a simple question & you can’t remember the words.
Cancer isn’t cured by positive thinking or “beating it.” It’s about whether or not damaged, rouge cells can be controlled. While attitude may help us endure treatment, it doesn’t determine outcomes. I’ve lost friends who were warriors and did everything “right.” They didn’t lose.
We don't talk enough about how many chronically ill and disabled people are trapped in jobs they hate simply because they need "good health insurance." It's another reason why healthcare shouldn't be tied to employment.
Everywhere. I got to the top of an escalator at the airport recently and the only thing there was a giant billboard for brain cancer. It made me uneasy, but I never would have noticed it before my diagnosis.

@katem02134 @ThanksCancer I saw an obituary recently of someone who died of cancer, and it said cancer really ruined her life and took her from her family too soon, it was so raw and true and they should all say that. There’s nothing courageous about it.
As a software engineer, I’ve blamed myself like this a lot
Still going through chemo, but going through the same inside
I've noticed that many healthy people only stick around when you're "staying positive". You're seen as an inspiration and a fighter...until you say something negative about the realities of having cancer. Then, those people disappear. #thankscancer

I just heard a patient refer to having cancer as "being evicted from their own life" and I'm going to need a minute because that's profound and heartbreaking.
Been there done that then I decided to get up off the floor and fight. #fuckcancer
Brain cancer is fun because you look & act normal until someone asks you a simple question & you can’t remember the words.
I truly wish people would stop using 'cancer' and 'metastasis' as metaphors in their political reporting/fantasy stories/etc.
@seeking_5ht Even the commercials for other things that have side effects “including cancers like lymphoma” just seem to pop out.
@AlisonBow @ThanksCancer Lonely in a crowd. I’ve been interviewing cancer patients for a week and one thing they all noticed was how much they noticed cancer on TV after their diagnosis.
@katem02134 @ThanksCancer I saw an obituary recently of someone who died of cancer, and it said cancer really ruined her life and took her from her family too soon, it was so raw and true and they should all say that. There’s nothing courageous about it.
@katem02134 @ThanksCancer What people do not realize is that being honest with them about our cancer is the real act of courage.
About once a week, I think, “This sucks and I don’t want to do it anymore.”
@ThanksCancer Every obituary I read where someone dies of cancer, it always says “and they never complained”. Really? Did they stop being a human being when they got cancer? My obit is going to say, “damn she really hated having cancer and she wasn’t afraid to let you know it”.
Dying of cancer isn’t brave or inspirational— it’s a fucking tragedy.
@ThanksCancer Favourite (entirely unsought after) advice brain tumour is result of me working too hard in analytical job
