I am feeling reminiscent about back in early 2021 when the stimulus was flowing and acute labor market shortages were occurring despite employment being down millions, and many short-term thinkers declared "isn't this great?". Many are using similar thinking about tariffs.

I don't think most Americans realize how hard tariffs are about to hit them. The combination of 1) escalating tariffs, 2) companies slowly passing this to consumers, and 3) repeal of the de minimis exemption in the Big Beautiful Bill, a lot stuff will be more expensive in 2027.

There’s something sad about the fact that great companies go public with all the gains captured by private investors Amazon IPOed at $500m. Nvidia? $50M! Hard not to think we’ve lost something great about the equalizing force of capitalism over the last 30 years

I am starting to think sycophancy is going to be a bigger problem than pure hallucination as LLMs improve. Models that won’t tell you directly when you are wrong (and justify your correctness) are ultimately more dangerous to decision-making than models that are sometimes wrong.

It’s worth noting that “life and safety” and “accessibility” are two of the top reasons for why this is now illegal today. Yet this is such a quintessentially human space. In our blind pursuit of “making sure nothing ever goes wrong”—we’ve completely dehumanized our habitat.
