You move self-hosted n8n to a new server. Workflows load. Every credential fails to decrypt. n8n encrypts credentials with a key it generates on first launch in ~/.n8n. New volume, new key. Set N8N_ENCRYPTION_KEY and back it up. Where does yours live right now? #n8n
Your workflow sent 1 email instead of 50. No error, all green. Someone ticked Execute Once in the node's Settings tab. n8n then runs that node with the first item only and skips the rest. Check Settings before blaming the data. Which toggle cost you a day? #n8n
Your sheet had 500 rows. Your HTTP Request node made 500 calls in a burst, and the API answered 429. n8n runs that node once per input item. Open Options, add Batching, set items per batch and an interval. What's your worst burst so far? #n8n
Day 17/ Bet you thought we forgot, but no, it’s reset day today. Also good time to remind you to get Daybreak Blue access, it only takes 15 mins and you don’t want to have to do it in the middle of an incident.
The client says the sync broke three weeks ago. You open Executions: nothing older than 14 days. Self-hosted n8n prunes execution data by default (EXECUTIONS_DATA_MAX_AGE = 336h). Log what you'll need to a table you own. How far back can you debug today? #n8n
A failed n8n execution tells nobody. It just sits in the Executions list until someone looks. Fix: one workflow that starts with an Error Trigger and pings you, set as the Error Workflow in each workflow's settings. Who hears about it first: you or the client? #n8n
Your 9:00 report ran at 15:00. Nothing "broke". n8n's Schedule Trigger follows the workflow timezone, and if that's unset, the instance default. On self-hosted that's often not your city. Set it per workflow. What's the oddest hour a cron of yours fired? #n8n
An n8n webhook is a door, not a product. Before you call it an API: auth on the edge, rate limits, versioned payloads, and retries that do not double-write. Which of those four is missing in most "APIs" you see?
A flawless demo isn't a finished workflow. Before you trust an n8n template: • Import it • Test with your own inputs • Send the same event twice • Break a dependency • Check the recovery path The real demo starts when something goes wrong.
Our workflow JSON ships with zero credentials. We never see your n8n, Google account or webhook key. That's why we skip setup calls: once we log into your instance, part of your stack lives in our heads. Fair trade, or is setup help worth it? theworkflowops.com/signup
@scooby_dooby07 Version pin + least-privilege credentials beat "we'll update later". Also keep the Editor behind VPN/SSO; a public UI is a bigger attack surface than the webhook path alone.
@MadukaObiete Nice loop. One hardening step: fail the run (or park in a review queue) when the model returns an unknown repair type instead of defaulting to "other"—silent miscategorization is worse than a red node.
@Rakshex_ Public n8n without an edge gate is a credentials vault with a doorbell. Minimum: reverse-proxy auth or a shared-secret header on every webhook, and keep the Editor/UI off the open internet.
@omaya_gg Duplicate detection is the part most templates skip. A hash of requester + symptom + time window (or a stable ticket_id) beats fuzzy title match—then a resubmit returns "already open" instead of a second row.
@EshbanBahadur Also pin the production path the caller actually has (trailing slash included). I've seen /webhook-test/ work in the editor while Active still pointed at an old path left from a previous import.
Client hits submit twice. How many rows? In our intake template the first brief_id wins. A resend returns "duplicate" and the original row stays, even if the title changed. Overwrite or new row: which would you pick? Free pack: theworkflowops.com/signup
@james_ailton Pinning messy real payloads is the gap between Editor-green and production. Keep one invalid and one edge-case next to the happy path so 422/503 branches get exercised on every change.
@AutomateWithTee Also check which auth that exact path expects—header API key vs Bearer vs query. I've seen perfect JSON rejected because the key sat in the body when the API only reads Authorization.
@affstudioX That 7-day Testing-mode gotcha is brutal after handoff. Checklist: OAuth app set to Production, refresh path tested after a forced revoke, and a reminder if you still cannot publish the app.
@boringdev77 Schema drift is the silent killer. Store expected column names and fail hard if any are missing—before you write anywhere. A rename then becomes a loud red node, not a client DM days later.
