Complexity impresses your peers. Clarity impresses your customers.

I asked a founder yesterday how his startup is going. He looked me in the eyes & said “I don’t think we’re gonna make it.” No fluff or ego protection. He was honest & we had a real conversation. Too many people hide their failures. It’s okay to say things aren’t working.

Reports confirm the spread of #Coronavirus is far worse than originally predicted. In light of this, the United States should consider implementing a temporary travel ban on travelers from China until the threat is resolved.

Dean of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong gets it. - we must apply the precautionary principle - we don't predict, we prepare - we must stop it at the scale of macroscopic mobility patterns @nntaleb @yaneerbaryam an ally

Writing is like weightlifting for the brain. Yes, it's hard. But it will improve the quality of your thinking. “If people cannot write well, they cannot think well, and if they cannot think well, others will do their thinking for them.” — George Orwell

@tobi These buzz words exist because someone somewhere wasn't able to sell without them. I'd be glad to be ignored by this attention, it'd be distracting.

If you use social media should your insurance cover your therapist? 'Medicare for all' is insurance against a sick, low agency society. We can build systems that help people reinstate their agency.

@naval Investment in a tech startup is highly coupled with the leverage the startup has. Are startups unique in this? No. Institutions are built around leverage. But in doing so, they decouple investments from it. And the cycle resets.

@markallanbovair Renting unfurnished apartments. It's a bitch

Just priceless. An estimated 20% of genetic research papers contain errors because Excel converted some gene names into calendar dates.

This is top shelf trolling, because thanks to Excel “1 in 5” genetics papers contain errors in gene names. sciencemag.org/news/2016/08/o…

@chetanp One question is: would CRM have created more value inside MSFT in the interim than it did independently? Cross-selling and other synergies...

@rmbalt and “cogito” feels broader than just thinking. It’s like, “cognition implies being”

Sometimes when I don't know somewhere well, I put their startup as their last name. Which reminds me that last names were originally occupations: Baker, Smith, Cook, Potter

Any time you pick up a well shuffled deck, you are almost certainly holding an arrangement of cards that has never before existed and will likely never exist again. - Yannay Khaikin

All it takes to make a difference

@AriannaSimpson - Delete emails w/o responding or flinching. - Don’t set up voicemail. - Don’t travel purely for business. - Don’t go to conferences unless speaking. - Eat dinner with friends or family. - Use blocks of open time to create, make good decisions, & focus on important over urgent.

@AriannaSimpson - No meetings before 11am. - No meetings when emails or calls will do. - Don’t schedule calls, text coordinate them on the fly when possible. - Cram all meetings into two days a week. - 1-on-1s are usually 30-minute walking meetings. (Meetings are the death of productivity)
