DO YOUR DUTY? YOU FIRST, OTTAWA. I’ve spent my life working, building businesses, creating jobs, paying taxes and contributing to this country. Today, taxes are my single biggest expense. Year after year, I watch my purchasing power decline, public services deteriorate and the cost of living climb. I pay more and feel I get less. And if the day comes when Canada’s political elites demand that ordinary Canadians pick up a rifle and fight, my first question will be: What the hell am I fighting for? For politicians who have never missed a paycheque? For bureaucrats who face no consequences for their failures? For a political class that lectures us about duty while enjoying privileges the rest of us pay for? Here’s my suggestion. Put the politicians, the well-connected elites and the people who are so eager to send others into war at the front of the line. Let them demonstrate the courage they demand from everyone else. Canada can survive without most of its political elites. It cannot survive without its farmers, tradespeople, workers and the families who keep this country running. I believe in defending my family, my freedom and my country. But don’t confuse loyalty to Canada with blind obedience to the people running it. Patriotism is earned through shared sacrifice, not demanded by people who never expect to make any themselves. You want Canadians to sacrifice everything? You first, you arrogant assholes.

Job losses, deficit spending to subsidize losses, weak private-sector growth, high immigration with increased targets (improves GDP via labor participation instead of technological or capital gains), lagging tech/productivity gains, falling quality of life, GDP per capita well behind the US, unaffordable housing, heavy regulation/bureaucracy slowing new builds/business, and high taxes. As a result the thought process has become … let’s celebrate working away from our strongest and largest trading partner. The one responsible for 20-30% of annualized Canadian GDP (total output) and 68% of total goods exported. Without considering who has the consumption capacity to fill that void? The EU doesn’t. An abrupt cut in US trade, roughly 20-30% of GDP, would hit both demand and supply chains and could devastate the Canadian economy. Let’s also not forget, just a year ago Carney stated “China is Canada's single greatest geopolitical security threat.” The same nation allied with Russia, North Korea, and Iran. His recent agenda serves as an awkward paradox as he continues increasing Canadian foreign aid to Ukraine. The country, actively allied with his new strategic partner.

No. Did somebody hand me a check for the new assessed value? Obviously not. But my property taxes still go up because, on paper, my house is suddenly worth hundreds of thousands more. That’s the part that doesn’t make sense to me. This isn’t income. It isn’t cash sitting in my bank account. It’s a number someone assigned to my property, and now I’m being billed based on that number. If my stock portfolio doubles but I don’t sell, I haven’t turned that gain into cash. If my salary stays the same, I don’t suddenly owe more income tax because someone thinks I’m worth more. So why does owning a home work differently? WHY AM I PAYING TAX ON A GAIN I NEVER REALIZED? A house isn’t just an investment. It’s where people live. You can pay off the mortgage, own the property outright, and still face a bigger bill every year because the value of the house went up on paper. At some point, you have to ask what “owning” something actually means if the cost of keeping it can keep rising because of money you never received. THIS ISN’T ABOUT WHETHER THE HOUSE IS “WORTH” MORE. IT’S ABOUT BEING CHARGED FOR VALUE YOU NEVER TURNED INTO CASH. And people are starting to notice.
