@IuliiaMendel Excellent point. Extraordinary moral debasement of those who sabotaged each and every peace deal, pushed millions of men to die.
Yet it all yields to material self-interest, refreshing saneness in the sea of mad rhetoric, as A. Rodnyansky noticed too.

@rochowanski As the number of men killed & crippled grew into millions, families cry, General Milley’s prescient predictions fully materialized.
A mob that ganged up on him 4 years ago seems to be unreflective & unremorseful, craves more blood for nothing.
Shameful.

Not really sure why General Milley is giving advice about diplomacy with Putin. He's not an expert on Putin or diplomacy. As they say in the USG, not his "AOR." (But maybe there's more to this story.)
BBC has emailed me several weeks ago. After @Telegraph lies about me I said I am going to do only live with BBC, since I am afraid that my intevriew can be manipulated. We agreed for today. But BBC lawyers said "no." They want me only pre-recorded, perhaps, they need to show it to lawyers.... Freedom of speech as it is.
@AmbDanFried What a veteran diplomat would make of General Milley’s prescient predictions that fully materialized, in two million men dead & crippled?

SECRETARY RUBIO: If it were not for the assistance of the United States, including under the Trump administration, there would be no Ukraine right now.
Trump: "Zelensky is a man that should've had this war settled a long time ago. If he would've listened to me, he would've made a much better deal a long time ago and he'd have a million people living... I think it's time for somebody else to negotiate on behalf of Ukraine." x.com/RapidResponse4…
Look at that — even Zelenskyi seems to have learned a thing or two from his first storm with the Poles.
Remember when, to appease the radicals in the military, he named an elite military unit after the heroes of the UPA — whose members massacred Polish women and children during World War II?
But don't expect that lesson to ever reach Lviv. Trust me, I lived there. Or, more accurately, I survived there.
I spent years trying to explain that writing critically about the OUN and UPA wasn't working for the Kremlin. It was called intellectual responsibility. A rather exotic concept in certain circles, apparently.
But hey, I got fired from the Academy of Sciences anyway — and denounced to the security services for good measure. 🤣
Apparently, historical honesty is a national security threat. Who knew?
Welcome to Lviv, where the dirty past is sacred, criticism is treason, and academic freedom comes with a complimentary security-service file.

“Ukraine looks completely out of touch with reality. We had only just managed to resolve the previous crisis — and now this. Everyone knew this was something that absolutely must not be done. The regional governor was personally aware of it. But the pursuit of cheap, one-day publicity prevailed. The consequences are already being felt, and they will only grow,” a staff member of President Zelenskyi’s Office told Ukrainska Pravda.
Bill #Clinton on Russian President #Putin: ‘He has kept his word in all the agreements we have concluded.’
On the contrary, it is the West that has failed to keep its promises - not to expand NATO, not to instigate coups d’état in the former Soviet countries.
Lviv Regional Council declared 2027 the Year of Roman Shukhevych.
Yes, that Roman Shukhevych.
📌The Ukrainian commander of the Nachtigall Battalion (1941), which entered Lviv alongside Nazi German occupation forces on June 30, 1941, when a Ukrainian puppet state, the "ally" of the Third Reich.
📌The very same Hauptmann Roman Shukhevych, Deputy Commander of the 201st Schutzmannschaft Battalion (1942), a unit involved in anti-partisan operations in Nazi-occupied Belarus.
📌The very same commander of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), whose forces carried out mass killings of Polish civilians — women, children, and men — particularly in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia.
📌Under his leadership, UPA units were also implicated in the murder of Jews hiding from the Holocaust and Ukrainians regarded as political enemies, Soviet collaborators, or simply insufficiently loyal.
And now the Lviv Regional Council has apparently decided that a country fighting for “freedom and democracy” could find no more inspiring national hero than a commander whose historical legacy is inseparable from atrocities against innocent civilians.
What a magnificent choice of role model.
Europe, are you taking notes?
Is this really the Ukraine that claims to champion good relations with its neighbors?
Is this really the Ukraine that European taxpayers are expected to finance while inflation eats away at their purchasing power and their own schools, kindergartens, and universities struggle for funding?
Apparently, European citizens are expected to tighten their belts while being told to applaud the glorification of men associated with some of the darkest chapters of Europe's history.
And the irony? Europe spent decades teaching its children “Never Again.” Now it is being asked to look the other way when history's darkest figures are dressed up as national heroes in the "beacon of democracy."
Quite an achievement.
Perhaps the next European history lesson should be titled: “Never Again — Terms and Conditions Apply.”
🇺🇦 Президент Украины Владимир Зеленский опубликовал открытое письмо Путину, в котором предложил встретиться, чтобы закончить войну:

@McFaul The criticisms may be perfectly valid, poignant even.
But aren’t there critical issues on the other side too that have been making each and every peace deal impossible since Istanbul – 2022, in Biden and Trump times?
How to fix those, to enable peace?
🚨 UPDATE: Sec. Marco Rubio just dropped this truth nuke on Zelensky acting ungrateful
"If it were not for the assistance of the US, there would be no Ukraine right now. Ukraine as a sovereign state would NOT EXIST."
"Let's be VERY CLEAR. There would be NO UKRAINE today were it not for the assistance of the United States."
The bottom line is the BILLIONS of American dollars, "going back to the Biden administration" and continuing under Trump
And frankly, maybe we shouldn't have kept it going.
They still get Starshield and they get intel sharing. Zelensky needs to end the war.
And Rubio says the days of apologizing are over: "We're no longer going to be defensive about this topic."
MAKE A DEAL. Zelensky seems to be banking on Democrat wins to fund Ukraine endlessly, but Trump is still president for 2+ years!
SECRETARY RUBIO: People need to grow up when it comes to foreign policy a little bit. I don't think it's unusual for the three most powerful, nuclear-armed nations on Earth to have their leaders communicate with each other.
