@OSufferer I just got my first walking stick a couple of weeks ago. I haven't used it out in public yet but I have used a wheelchair which somehow feels less embarrassing for me (?? Lol) but I will alternate depending on the situation

"But they're not disabled!" How do you know? *They* might not even know yet. They might just believe that there's something wrong with their character - a moral failing - because that is all that society tells them.
Don't say you wouldn't discriminate against disabled folk, if you're fine to judge young adults who struggle to work, or maintain a household, or socialise.

@bennessb The thing that gets me is how people who are "independent" often forget that actually we live in society and depend on others in some way. I don't make clothes, produce electricity, grow/farm food, make most things I use daily. We are all dependent, just to different degrees...

A lot of able bodied people take it VERY personally when disabled people say that we can't do a thing. They often see it as an excuse & get upset. Thinking that their disabilities can't be THAT bad. Centering themselves rather than making accommodations for the disabled person.
Over-exerting myself so that I appear more functional than I am protects me from shame (to a degree) but often results in LESS support.
I set the bar for support from others by how I treat myself. If I don't go easier on myself when I need to, no one else will either.
The people in your life will struggle to comprehend the extent of your suffering if you aren't being honest with them. And you can't be honest with them unless you are honest with yourself. #chronicillness #mentalhealth
Acknowledging those who are able to push through their chronic pain/illness to do what they need to do is great but we also need to acknowledge those who aren't able to. They are not any less worthy of praise. ❤ #chronicallyill #ChronicPain #Fibromyalgia #cfs #Disability #MECFS
