1/ my company just mandated 90% unit test coverage on our core codebase. I have thoughts 2/ most of our code is written by AI now. so are the tests. same model writes the function, writes the assertion, checks its own work. wrong assumption in, wrong assumption tested, green checkmark out 3/ to hold 90%, every one-line change means the agent reads 6 test files and rewrites 4 mocks first. half the tokens go to tests. the context window fills up with test junk and the actual business logic gets pushed out 4/ worse part nobody talks about: models treat tests as the source of truth for “how this code is used.” so all the weird mocks and edge-case calls written just to hit coverage? the AI learns those and starts writing them into real code 5/ the stuff that actually catches bugs (integration tests, contract tests, canaries, good observability) is hard to put on a dashboard. coverage % is easy. so guess which one becomes the KPI 6/ this isn’t a quality problem, it’s an org problem. AI killed a lot of work but the roles and processes are still there. someone has to set the metric, track the metric, present the metric in a QBR 7/ 90% coverage is what busywork looks like in the AI era
my company now requires 90% unit test coverage on the core repo the AI writes the code. the AI writes the tests. the AI grades its own homework. if it misread the spec, the tests misread it too. all green, prod still on fire meanwhile we burn tokens and stuff the context window with mocks nobody asked for coverage targets in 2026 are just busywork for people whose jobs AI already ate
Rebranding AI as “SI” is bold, considering “si” sounds like “death” in Chinese. Good luck getting 1.4 billion people on board 😅
BREAKING: President Trump says he is banning the terms “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI.”
@darrelltalksfi Monopoly mortgages don’t compound or get margin-called. Real ones do. Assets are elastic, debt is rigid. A 43% win rate is great when losing just means a new game.
Unpopular opinion: the people getting the most out of AI are the ones who could do the work without it.
