Slow, real science for sleep or a quiet mind.
From ancient Earth to distant galaxies.
A little wonder here every night ✨

@actionhappiness Works especially well when you can't sleep at 2am and every worry feels like it'll matter forever. Most of them don't even make it to breakfast. 🌙
@newscientist And there's still one rebel today: the crab-eating frog of Southeast Asia lives in salty mangroves and handles it by keeping extra urea in its blood. Apparently it never got the memo either. 🐸
@CarlBovisNature And at dusk, thousands of them move as one. Each bird only watches its seven nearest neighbours, and somehow the whole sky starts to breathe. ✨
@amazing_physics Both, I think. Feeling small takes the pressure off a little. And knowing everything we've ever loved happened on that one tiny world makes an ordinary day feel more precious. ✨
Tonight's grain of sand: in Alaska, a small brown frog freezes solid every winter. Its heart stops. It doesn't breathe. By any ordinary measure, it's gone.
Then spring comes.
Sweet dreams, curious minds ✨
Its secret is sugar. As the ice creeps in, the wood frog floods its cells with glucose, a natural antifreeze that protects them from the cold. In spring it thaws, its heart starts beating again, and it simply hops away. The ultimate "I'll deal with it in spring." 🐸
Tonight's grain of sand: in 1997, underwater microphones caught a sound so loud it was picked up across much of the Pacific. They called it the Bloop.
For years, people wondered if it was a sea monster. The answer turned out to be colder.
Sweet dreams, curious minds ✨
It was an icequake: a massive iceberg cracking and breaking away off Antarctica, its groan travelling through the deep for thousands of kilometres. So no monster. Just Antarctica, cracking its knuckles. 🧊
@AnimalPlanet And it makes sense: young pythons hunt near the forest edge, where yellow and red blend in. Adults move up into the green canopy, and their color follows. From highlighter to houseplant.
@Oceanwonders01 For anyone wondering: a heat run is when a group of male humpbacks chase one female for hours, shoving and blowing bubble trails to win her over. Basically forty tons of pick-me energy. 🐋
