In Exodus 33, we see what an extraordinary training it must have been for Joshua. He had the privilege to learn from Moses, the greatest man of God in the Old Testament. It is important to find good Christian role-models who you can learn from and they can help and encourage you.

The temptation to stay in a warm bed just a little longer I find hard to resist. But, I realise that it probably is the best time to find uninterrupted peace. If Jesus got up early to pray, I should at least try to do the same.

In Mark 1:35, we see that Jesus got up early to pray. Now, I am challenged by the words ‘very early’. I am not good in the morning and even worse while it is ‘still dark’.

Genesis 39:1–23 You can’t keep a good person down. God was with Joseph even when everything went wrong. He did not necessarily rescue him from it, but he did use it for good. God was working on Joseph’s character. It was all part of his preparation.

God works his purposes out in spite of our weakness, vulnerability and sin. A lot of human sin and disappointment was involved in the birth of Jacob’s children (Gen 29:31 – 30:21). Yet, through it all, God was working out his purposes for the twelve tribes of Israel.
