The Province of Ontario has an opportunity to go all-in on regional rail (expanding GO service to new locales). Best dollar-per-kilometre deal out there for getting people out of cars who don't need to drive, reducing congestion. GO is also extremely politically popular #onpoli

@Sean_YYZ Unpopular hot take, but I increasingly think Metrolinx should have been allowed to upload the subway system (and not just the extensions). I'm not saying they are necessarily better at this stuff, just that having *all* higher-order transit would have to lead to better alignment.

It’s a myth that transit mode share drops significantly outside downtown. That’s what makes Toronto unique. Mode share outside downtown, especially around the subways, is quite comparable to downtown. Good transit service can attract riders even in postwar suburbia!

There’s this weird Torontoism where people act like since the suburbs don’t have rail transit they don’t have transit. But honestly suburban Toronto often has much better bus service than core parts of the city have streetcar service.
