lefty voices criticising “greedflation” now include none other than - squints at notebook - the IMF
Today, at 3:22pm, my life changed forever when I learned that the husband in Everything Everywhere All At Once is played by the same actor as Shorty in Indiana Jones Temple of Doom—in his first movie role in 37 years
Also recounted in the Create Streets.
Just published my latest #medium #playingtowin Practitioner Insights piece, this one on What Makes for a Great Strategist? rogermartin.medium.com/what-makes-for…… #strategy #Mindset
An opinion I've been afraid to share: I think that DTC has failed, overall. I've helped launch more brands than anyone else so maybe there's something to it. The brands we hold up as beacons have been unprofitable for years. Every IPO tanks. Acquisitions are quickly sunset.
I don’t understand stingy business owners. If you want to attract world-class talent you have to be willing to share big upside, whether it’s a startup or real estate. Hire right, incentivize right, and the pie will grow. Zero sum thinking tends to manifest itself.
OK, hear me out. What if we create like a fee or financial contribution or something - let's call it a 'tax', no wait, that's too generic, 'corporate tax' is better - and this 'corporate tax' was used to fund schools and colleges? Everyone would have to pay it. That might work.

I'm kicking off the year with a series of posts attempting to share a little of how I do brand strategy in case it helps you delvelop your practice. First up, I thought i'd commit to prose my strategy journey over the past 30 years. adliterate.com/2022/01/a-brie…
Creating strategy is different to validating strategy... and creating strategy - the craft of a strategist - is wildly under-taught.

I also used to be dismissive of a big company experience at a startup until I worked with ex-big co people. We recently brought someone on who has spent his entire career specializing in an area at some of the largest companies and is an absolute force to be reckoned with.

#Facebook is a rotten company, rotten from the top down, its founder, board and top execs are sociopaths and monsters, committers of non-hyperbolic, no-fooling crimes against humanity. They lie, they cheat, they steal. They are some of history's greatest villains. 1/
The poster child of the DTC ‘revolution’ (whatever that means) is, surprise surprise, still losing a lot of money cnbc.com/2021/08/24/war…
Brilliant. *This* is how you report on platforms. 10/10 @timmarchman vice.com/en/article/bvz…
I always, ALWAYS, write my decks in a word doc first to ensure I have the content & the narrative down before I even think about opening up keynote. We tend to get lost in slides, we focus too much on padding & visuals, the story gets lost. Write it out in text first. Trust me.
The ‘Instant delivery’ category is fucking nauseating capitalism. Some poor soul, a human drone, racing to your door to deliver 5-minute Cheetos to your face. Get the fuck up off the couch you lazy fat fuckers. Congrats to everyone working to make this a reality for consumers.
@ceciliakang @sheeraf @chesterj1 the book reports on a Nicer News Feed, deployed post 2020 election, that was a better experience for users, but bad for engagement. FB turned it off soon thereafter because of that latter fact. FB is clearly able to moderate itself better than it currently is. so why isn't it?
just finished @ceciliakang and @sheeraf's tremendous new book. it made me feel a lot of things––mostly anger, but also sadness––and dredged up a lot of memories of my time working there that I'd long left behind

The most relevant graph you will see in this election is this one ... and I've highlighted the bit that matters. Exposure to the system of neoliberalism over time will make you act in a more individualistic manner and support neoliberalism. No different from the Romanian study.

@RogerLMartin There is a seemingly (emphasis on seemingly) huge incompatibility between your work and Mr Rumelt's in that he does not like strategy defined as choices. However it's only because he defines choices as off-the-shelf options and like you he advocates for creativity.
