I will be 44 later this year. I have written professionally since I was 14. That means that it took me, as near as makes no difference, three decades to realize that my author brain works significantly better after a creative warmup in the morning. Bloody hell.
For various reasons, I have recently had to (yet again) ponder what strategy - and adaptive strategy - truly is. For now, I have settled on the following: Beneath the armor of technical jargon, the naked essence of adaptive strategy is an idea in the process of being realized.

An addendum to @rorysutherland's observation that a lonesome stare through a window makes you antisocial, whereas the same with a cigarette in your hand makes you a philosopher: A glass of wine at the end of the day makes you an alcoholic. A G&T makes you an aristocrat.

I have heard this repeated ad nauseam over the years. Never actually seen it. A bit like the claim that companies look for people who challenge the status quo (as if). Applicants get stuck along the way. Recruiters recommend obvious, not best and certainly not interesting, fits.

@JPCastlin If you don't understand what matters there's plenty of time to be spent trying to understand everything.
@JPCastlin A lot of time and money would be saved if step 2 was added as “research and understand what has and has not worked in the past in similar situations”. The amount of wheel reinvention boggles the mind.
