If we let go of our conditions on embrace, surrender our need to control other people, and liberate the Spirit to welcome as She sees fit, we will not only make room for so many others at the party, we will experience so much more of the goodness of being included ourselves.

Isn’t it tragically hilarious how we are still having the same conversations about who is in and who is out thousands of years after Jesus dismantled and dismissed these so called boundaries? Honestly. It’s so lame, and such a waste of our sacred energy.

Some times it means that we can no longer be a part of the institutions, communities, or churches we once called home (while other times, these spaces are the key to our growth). The need for institutional acceptance is a massive wall that gets in the way of individual growth.

It's not about doing things perfectly, it's about choosing to return when you don’t do it perfectly. It's not about not making mistakes, its about how quickly you can allow yourself to receive a new beginning from God after you make a mistake.

If you just believe in Jesus, no one cares. If you take justice seriously, call out America’s legacy of colonization or white supremacy, and refuse to buy into the ways the American dream conflicts with Jesus' vision of the Kingdom of God, that’s when people will get mad.

If you find yourself spending more energy worrying about who is being welcomed and accepted by the church than loving and caring for people that are seen as outsiders to the church, you might be missing the whole thing.

If you take justice and the poor seriously, if you call out America’s legacy of colonization or racism, if you refuse to buy into the ways the so called American Dream conflicts with Jesus' vision of the Kingdom of God--that’s when Christian nationalists are going to get mad.

If you’re more compassionate than you used to be, you’re on the right path. If you love people you were previously unable to love, you’re on the right path. Ultimately if your life looks more like the expectation shattering love of Jesus, then trust you’re on the right path.

The outrage of whiteness over Trump’s house being legally searched is absurd and telling given its legacy of silence while Black people’s homes have been illegally raided, bodies have been searched, and lives have been consistently harassed and killed by law enforcement.

Mystics are always tiptoeing along the edge of heresy, dancing on top of the tables of orthodoxy, and laughing at the walls built by insecurity. We perform religious rituals with a smile and a wink, knowing that nobody needs anyone to open doors to the house they’re already in.
