@levie FDE-style roles will increase by 10x within a year in order to help existing companies go through the AI transformation .
@KobeissiLetter I suspect FDE role will reach 100k by the end of next year.
@quxiaoyin As an FDE you need to be able to envision how the process should look like now when AI is at the core of it. And then have the courage and skills to get the customer onboarding.
@guilleflorvs That's why 10s of thousands of FDEs are being hired at the moment. And I suspect the real demand will reach 100s of thousands.

@signulll Honestly, at this stage it's becoming irrelevant, unless there's a step change in intelligence level. Most frontier models are good enough. It's about what we do with them and how we apply that intelligence.
@suraj_sharma14 I'd don't think we'll have as many roles. Probably 2 or 3 at most where you'll need to possess a combination of skills you mentioned.

@mfishbein @levie @sequoia Why do you consider as an indie FDE, deployment companies or independent FDEs?
@eltintero Well, they are targeting consumers and this is a way to appeal to larger audiences. But I agree, I'd love to see some variety.
@FDEdir You're a services business and that's completely fine - but it's not an FDE role.
I once asked a fellow FDE how it paid off for his company that he'd spent six months on one customer whose ARR was a third of his salary. His answer: without that customer they'd have built a completely different product, and by now they'd have been lost. Then he added that they would have done it for free, just for the learning. That reframed the role for me. An FDE team is an investment in discovery, and the return shows up in the product.
