Minneapolis is facing a $60 million dollar budget disaster after city officials pretended 20 million dollars in police overtime would somehow only cost 3 million. City Hall spent years acting like the federal stimulus checks would never run out. They used one-time COVID relief to build permanent social programs that the city was never able to afford on its own. Now the businesses that used to pay the bills have fled a hollowed-out downtown, leaving the tax base in shambles. And of course its Mayor Jacob Frey who is left to bridge the gap between their political fantasies and the reality of an empty treasury. Which is why he is forced to raise taxes and cut city jobs. When a mayor prioritizes social engineering and enabling Somalian Fraud over the basic safety and infrastructure that allows a local economy to breathe, the producers eventually leave.
