@perrymetzger As someone who spent much of his career on that other stuff, I'm really surprised that this works so well. But having experience with trying to extract expertise from experts and encode them, it's not THAT surprising that large training sets substitute well for that.

👉 Style is a distributional property; correctness is an instance-level property. LLMs (and GenAI) learn and sample from the distribution. Databases store and retrieve instances. Ergo, LLMs can't self-verify correctness (or assure factuality) and databases can't get creative!
Daniel Dennett (RIP) on LLMs: "[..] their goal is truthiness, not truth. They are more like historical fiction writers than historians." Not a bad way to remember the form vs. content conundrums surrounding GenAI.
