I've always been an advocate for manual CPC / target IS for branded traffic. However, recently there's been a shift, especially for brands with an amazon store. You end up paying for a lot of branded traffic, with low CR. This is where tROAS does outshine the former.
Google Ads turns 24 this year. I was there for 13 years of it. In that time a ton of things have changed. Except of one thing... The fundamentals. Master them and no update can shake you up.
I can't stress enough how important this is if you're running VSL funnel. Duplicate your funnels per traffic source (YT/Meta). Trust me, your CRM won't lie—it's the golden standard for accuracy. By isolating tracking events, you can zero in on exact platform performance.
One of the biggest roles you can adapt to in Google is taking a God’s view of your account. Look at your account from 30,000 feet and slowly zoom in to uncover opportunities. Don’t get lost in the weeds if you can’t see the forest for the trees.
Eight years later, yet the same prospect story remains: ✅ We want someone that is more aggressive in advertising, our current party is too conservative ✅ We want someone who is pro-active. Currently, it feels like we're pulling all the weight 🤷♂️ Some old songs keep playing
"Sitting on the bench doesn't qualify you to coach the team." With Google Ads, change is the only constant. So, no matter how much XP you have, you've got to roll up your sleeves and dive into those ad accounts. Truly get the game = playing on the field
Google's smart bidding can sometimes send CPCs through the roof. Conversion based bidding is cool, but having CPCs that are higher than your avg. CPA make no sense. That's like paying gourmet prices for fast food. Use portfolio bid strategies to set a threshold for CPC.
How much money will Google offer advertisers next to turn on auto-apply recommendations (AAR)? A) $150 B) $500 C) It doesn't matter, they will leech it back through wasted ad spend anyway
Using pMax with auto created assets? At least exclude URLs you don't want to send traffic to: 🪛 privacy policy 🪛 contact us 🪛 location selector And other support pages pMax would love to use to waste your money on shitty brand experiences.
Google Ads is all about the perfect fit. Like a tailor crafting a suit, align every tweak and setting with your client's goals for standout results.
Brand owner: “I struggle to get my CPA down to X.” You don’t have a CPA problem, you have a LTV problem. Think about it. A 5% increase in retention can lead to a 25% to 100% increase in profits.
Increase traffic for low-performing products in pMax Do this: - Enter more auctions by having a fully descriptive product feed - Build out data history by breaking out product in their own STD shopping campaign - Move back into pMax once you build out data at item ID level
Quality score is overrated. Sure, if you're chasing leads, a stellar landing page Qscore is your golden ticket. But for eCommerce it's often quite on point. Focus on your CTR to make the magic happen.
A Google Growth Rep isn't helping you for free. You pay indirectly. Their currency is called "wasted ad spend".
Facebook Marketer trying to learn Google Ads: "I just don't know what I don't know." What I hear: "I don't know what I'm doing and I have no direction." Google Ads is a different beast.
ALWAYS BE TESTING Never take anything for granted. Not your ad’s performance, not your price points, not your funnel, not even your payment options. Incremental small gains will compound over time.
Great agencies are evolving into business consultants. It's a natural progression when brands demand unrealistic results. Don't just focus on the performance metrics, Dive into their P&L + targets. Understand where the power of media buying ends & other levers needs pulling.
