Got shoulder pain? Then get it moving, and dont worry about other silly stuff! All types of shoulder exercise are effective for shoulder pain, and the addition of other therapies such as manual therapy, dry needling, taping add little further value! 😎 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38683828/
If you have a read even a little about back pain, you already probably know that you are unlikely to "big 3" back pain away whilst ignoring... ✅ Comorbidity ✅ Poor lifestyle ✅ Low socio economics ✅ Negative mental state
Here is a little movement model I use in rehab ✅ Often stimulus to a sensitised system needs to be managed by reduced load ✅ Fun & play can be a great way to engage people ✅ Relaxation can be helpful 🏋️♀️ Load is important 🏃♂️ Fitness is our friend It all matters!
I have some interesting new in person courses coming for next year across a few subjects I am looking for some venues in around London so if you have one & want to potentially host, let me know!
Whats the obsession with "low impact" exercise? It's the epitome of the body as a machine thinking Load is good for us
Classic paper from Dan Moerman over 20 years old now The idea of "Meaning & response" to explain things like the placebo effect have always resonated with me Definitely worth a read researchgate.net/publication/11…
Overall health seems to have an influence on many MSK conditions Socioeconomic status appears to influence our health! Probably why specific effects of interventions are not always what folk would like them to be! cdc.gov/dhdsp/health_e…
When patients tell me their other physio breaks up their scar tissue!
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29112007/ "Trajectories & predictors of long-term course of LBP" What factors predict back pain over 5 years? ✅ Lower social class ✅ Higher pain intensity ✅ Longer duration of pain ✅ ⬆️ passive behavioural coping ✅ Perceptions of the greater consequences
Great new paper looking at barriers & enablers to exercise A real key message is that most things can be BOTH an enabler/barrier ✅ See & hear the individual ❌ Do not force a vision of exercise on people pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38635470/#:~:t…
Nearly half of those with acute low back pain experienced less than favorable trajectories! 🤔 Have we over estimated the favourable natural history of acute low back pain, or has it become less favourable due to over assessment and over treatment of it? pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38606314/
Nice new paper here on exercise for hip OA My take homes ✅ Resistance training is OK for OA! ✅ Exercise doesn't need to be progressive ✅ Low or higher load can help ✅ How much change should we expect in a multifactorial degenerative condition? ✅ Need a no treatment group
Common sense guidelines for movement & exercise! Fully downloadable and in multiple languages cor-kinetic.com/common-sense-e…
My mate @AdamMeakins has gotten confused around the confusing subject of placebo Here are some papers that might help! Love BC Here they use.. Placebo response = N Hx/regression to mean Placebo effect = Specific effects from context/placebo trialsjournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…
Its really not helpful that placebo, placebo effect, and placebo response mean different things to different people and are used interchangeably in a lot of literature and research! 🤔🤨
What an interesting paper this is! pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38602164/ It shows that 70-80% all manual therapy’s effects on pain are due to contextual effects (PCE) and not the actual treatment itself! Contextual effects are things like the therapist explanations, narratives, and positive…
How do people make sense of back pain? The emphasis on biomechanical factors, which was double that of psychological factors & more than five times placed on social factors, strongly contrasts with contemporary recognition of LBP as BPS condition pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35045354/
🔥Research Wednesday🔥 🚩Red Flags for Low Back Pain Are Not Always Really Red🚩 This paper looked at... "Evaluating the utility of red flag questions in uncovering their classically associated diagnoses" Here is 🧵on it! pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29509613/ 1/
betterclinicianproject.com/blog/spinal-re… April is all about serious pathology and the red flag concept. Check out this awesome blog from @ClementsCharl96

Being good at toxicity on social media (or anywhere), is like coming first in a premature ejaculation contest
🏴 Declan Rice’s girlfriend Lauren Fryer has sadly deleted all her social media photos after vile trolls made fun over her appearance. Absolutely heartbreaking to hear, nobody deserves that. 💔

Neither will you. 🦆
If you’ve got back pain And your PT told you have a muscle imbalance And gives you low intensity exercises to fix it -bands walking -bird dog/planks -pink dumbbells It’s not going to fix it. It won’t even find the imbalance You need high intensity to -find it -fix it
