Brand marketing and channel expansion continue to be buzzwords in consumer. The issue is brands that haven’t started investing in these are the same brands in a cash position that can’t support delayed ROI initiatives. With capital markets tight, it’s a tough challenge to solve.

In 2021, Hut Group $THG, an aggregator running scores of brands across multiple categories, was charging on the LSE at a $11.5B market cap: $2.7B in revenue, $160m in EBITDA, $130m net loss. It was a noteworthy comp for $12B of aggregator funding.

.@kelceylehrich said recently on a podcast, a couple of years ago they bought two brands: 1. Distressed emergency food brand they had to rebuild from ground up but got for pennies 2. Growing, profitable brand on a reasonable EBITDA multiple The first has massively outperformed.

Markets and consumer sentiment are so volatile, even at scale. Made was doing $500M of revenue, valued at $900M, and just went BK with IP selling for $3M. Touch of Modern doing $120M of revenue, went through BK-lite with assets and IP selling for $7M.
