Since the money is coming from a private source, I'm willing to see if it improves quality of life and reduces homelessness. Of course, the risk is that people will just become permanently dependent on this stipend. I guess we'll find out. sfstandard.com/2024/04/30/goo…
Personally, I like and support Daniel Lurie for San Francisco's next mayor. I believe he has the vision to address the challenges of homelessness, open street drug use, and law enforcement shortages to require a coordinated and multi-faceted approach to save SF.
Leadership matters. San Francisco needs to show its own citizens it can do this right. The Central Subway right now isn't that. Whoever is mayor come January '25 should fix it, and finish it to North Beach.

@adampnathan I think that’s just proof of SF democracy at work, no? Take very conservative drug enforcement strategies in other states like LA, WV and KY - they’re not working either. We tried a new approach to it that had public support, and it didn’t work out. Now we’re course correcting

@adampnathan Why does your graph only start in 2010? There were drug issues in SF already in the late 1960s.
@adampnathan @LondonBreed Because there's a lot of cronyism going on here in SF. That has been going on for a very long time. Recently they have learned that some non-profits have been taking the money they get from the city, for their own use.🤔
Whatever direction our drug policy goes in San Francisco, I hope it ends in recovery from addictions.
But San Francisco is on pace to lose another 800 people to OD this year. Change can't come fast enough. It's time we settle on a policy towards drugs and drug use and stick to it.
