Q2 Can you recall a pivotal moment or decision that significantly shaped the trajectory of your career? #AvintheAm #Avtweeps #SundayMorning
Many. It's not just one pivotal moment over, but in terms of my current career place in #highered & our #AVinTheAM family, it was taking advantage of the PSNI panel while I was very less-known and declaring "#AVaaServiceMustDie". It was about shock value, and it worked. And everything else rolled from there.
A couple 😅 let’s see I was working for a huge Tech company and performed well and even received recommendation letters from upper management (from the client’s C-level exec) for my performance at our financial client’s account. I always offered a solution and they enjoyed that. Long story short, we lost the account to another Tech Giant and were having a farewell meeting with Thank You’s and bonuses. During that farewell meeting, I was the only one who they actually said under performed and there was a ticket to retrieve a serial number and I did close it, but the info was incorrect 🤯 I’m working on 600M dollar systems that perform live financial transactions, but can’t read a serial number 🤣 The department I was in didn’t even do IMAC. Many of my colleagues who got banned from floors, came to work late, came to work High, always under performed, ALL got bonuses! Even my manager couldn’t explain me what just happened. Lesson: In your career, It’s Who you know! Not what you know! It exists in our Pro AV & Broadcast industry as well. So, Know the right people or Do your own thing! Even then you need to know somebody, so start building the right contacts and you’ll be fine! #AVinTheAM
@chris_neto So many. Early in my career, I was the design engineer for the best salesperson in my company. I learned so much from working with her for 4 years. Everything is sales, and the training I got from her was invaluable. #AVintheAM
@chris_neto Realizing that I enjoyed video production more as a hobby and applying for an AV equipment loan job at 330am. Years later, volunteering to learn programming which I had shunned a decade before. Funny how things come full circle. #AVInTheAM
@chris_neto Oh wow! My pivotal moment? Getting on #AVHappyHour during the pandemic! Seriously! that was a game changer #AVintheAM
@chris_neto 1. Shifting from production to integration 2. CTS-D 3. Going into consulting with @hewshott #avintheam
@chris_neto Deciding whether to move to Africa for minimum 2 years or re-study. I restudied. There's a longer story about this which I'll write down some day.
@chris_neto I have 2 that stick out. 1 getting called to the big boss office to be told I am no longer on the networking team I am now on the academic team and will be doing this thing called AV. 2. When a random person name @JosiahWay asked me to be on the @HigherEdAV poscast #AVintheAM
@chris_neto When I waited to visit the @mechdyne booth at the @iastate career fair because a former dorm-mate of mine was manning the booth with the same degree as me. When I started talking to him, we realized I would be perfect there, and that got the ball rolling. #AVintheAM
@chris_neto Yes leaving one manufacturer for another doubled my income. Second pivotal choice was going to integration. I have absolutely loved it for the last 10+ years! #avintheam
