@kyleshevlin My favorite was sitting with a dev who had been on the team a long time and rolling a small change on day one. IOW, how to deploy and experiment. On my own with no help? Figure out how to attach the debugger and walk through stuff.

@ASpittel I spent all day on a tractor filling in a hole I dug for a pool a few years ago. Felt amazing. Not software.

@mpoppendieck Tangential to your point, but for the benefit of others: MCAS is not a stall prevention system. It is not essential to stable flight. It's the flight control analog to syntactic sugar.

@kvlly Reasonable people will disagree, but, this is best measured in time relative to known expenses. It's more like, how much can you tolerate before becoming desperate?

@MEKergosien @tdesseyn @tdesseyn deserves a session where he gets to complain about developer candidates. 😆

That is why this photo resonates; not just because of Dr. Bouman's team's work (though that is obviously incredible!) but because her moment of joy inspires us -- all of us -- to strive for our own breakthroughs. 5/

Have you seen this netting on citrus groves around the valley?! It's likely you have, but do you know what they are for?? We grow @cutiescitrus mandarins that are not naturally seedless! In order for them to be seedless, we cannot let bees pollenate the blossoms!!

@seldo Have you seen the liquid nitrogen tanks just hanging out on street corners? They were somewhat common when I was there. popsci.com/those-nitrogen…

@FakeRyanGosling Thanks, OP. This problem you were deploying a fix for is the failure mode I had in mind. I think we ended up on slightly different wavelengths.

@QuinnyPig If I read this correctly, the failure mode is "we needed to roll back and the old (aka known stable, because the new one was worse) version was underprovisioned, so service sucked until we figured out what went wrong." Is that more accurate?
