Businesses run on 'gut' feelings too often. A client commented about a strategy based on recent growth. I pull up a dashboard I created for her & no. They're shrinking & need a different strategy. I challenge you to look at your #s before you make your next decision.

Mistakes aren’t free. You spend precious hours & money making them. Protect your ⏳ & 💵 with analytics: 1. Know your goal: Clients initially ask for what doesn't support a goal 2. Act on what you see: Get out of your emotions 3. Interpretation beats information every time

Your customers aren't starting where you are at. You've spent days, weeks, or even years embedded in the data. I heard this called the "curse of knowledge" by a pal today, & it was such a great reminder.

Data analytics projects can feel like an endless loop of revisions & missed deadlines. One minute you're smooth-sailing & the next you're trapped in a never-ending loop of revisions, extensions, and “Just 1 more thing” requests. Today has been one of those days.

9 times out of 10 what I’m asked to do isn’t what is needed My customers come to me with what they think the problem is, but the heart of the problem is deeper. Better questions or even better conversations is how I discover the TRUE request.

Deadlines loom & pressure high? Don't plow right into the data. It's tempting but short-sighted. Common mistakes I see: 1. Overlooking stakeholder involvement: Ask questions! 2. Undervaluing data quality: Don’t skip Exploratory Data Analysis! 3. Vague goals: KPIs for the win!

Why learn SQL for data analysis? 1. Integrates with a bajillion other tools 2. Learn 1 tool & others are a breeze 3. Handles large datasets 4. Automation at scale $$$ You’ll qualify for roles that make more than those that don’t need SQL.

I've been on 3 interviews where SQL was a requirement but not really when I was in the job. In 1 interview, SQL was never mentioned. In 2 interviews, it was at least brought up. The hiring managers just had an idea that they wanted it. Job hunting is WILD! 🦁

Red-yellow-green palettes are an assault on the eyes. With all that color your point is buried. But if you insist, at least go red-yellow-blue to help others see it. 1 in 12 men are colorblind.

Knowing what is possible is half the battle as an analyst. The same is true of SQL. You can do so much with spreadsheets. You can do even more if you layer in SQL into your toolset.

Data is so valuable. I implemented time-blocking with a day of week component for 5 weeks. Tracking this showed me I will not be doing deep work before work on Thursdays.
