I keep hearing people refer to Simone Biles as a young girl. She is a grown woman, making adult decisions that require incredible maturity, confidence, and self-awareness.
@ChitownStu No idea when she started saying it publicly but I know she was working against public ed the whole time she was on our school board. Also I have no idea what she tweeted because I’m #BlockedByPam
@MatthewWBenson @Karrin4Arizona I try to keep an open mind and understand serious and principled conservative thought. This is just fringe and unprincipled extremism. How many Kari Lake / Trump sycophants can the Rs run in one primary?
@azcentral 30+ year subscriber. My online access is always messed up. You don’t value your journalists and have lost so many - a huge loss for our community. I’ve held onto my subscription but the condescension and arrogance of this editorial might finally put me over the edge.
And the people owning these private schools - maximizing profits by delivering cheap education - will be the same people who just got tax relief. It’s all part of his plan. (3/3)
The argument will be that if our public schools can’t find a way to make it work then we should give more vouchers away so people can pull their kids. (2/3)
Let’s be clear about one thing. If AZ schools struggle to stay open and function through the delta wave that’s a bonus for Ducey. Just allows him to make progress privatizing our education system. (1/3)
@azdedo Putting that mask ban into a statute was extraordinarily bad policy even if Covid numbers had stayed low. To permanently eliminate an easy and effective phi and foreclose nimble and quick public health actions is truly awful and will cost lives.
My kids just spent 1 1/4 school years doing online school. They are craving normalcy. Cannot wait to be back next week. It kills me that we could get closer to normal if districts could require masks for the short term. Instead we are just going to draw out this pandemic agony.
@anneryman @broomheadKTAR Really impossible to imagine someone who actually has had children saying this. I can send my teenagers with masks. But I have zero control over what they do with them at school.
Arizona friends - this candidate for Governor is polished and wealthy and has a resume but there is NOTHING reasonable or statesmanlike about her. Don’t be fooled. She’s using a dog whistle as a bullhorn here.
@JessicaWaniEsq Yes. Definitely. I’d settle for a coordinated school district response here in Arizona.
@therecount @kaitlancollins I am a Psaki fan but OMG. I live in one of those 8 states and I have kids starting school next week. The stress is high enough without this flippant, dismissive and uncaring attitude toward millions of Americans.
@j__o__e___ @CrashLewin @annacaroruiz Studying for the bar exam is spending two months cramming your short term memory with memorized info that will be immediately forgotten. Such a waste.
@prbentz How about the legislature simply funds schools properly and we have NO overrides or bonds?!
@NevineMelikian @SenatorSinema And btw did people in her office really think this was a convincing point? I mean this would be like if the Suns had said “well the Bucks might beat us next year so f%*^ it let’s not even try this time around.”
+1. And @SenatorSinema - the answer from me is an emphatic YES. I believe in our democracy enough to have faith that our communities will embrace and value just and accessible voting rights and that we will protect them. You on the other hand are too willing to destroy them. twitter.com/NevineMelikian…
By the way, we had enough money in the budget to bring teacher pay to national average. And we had enough money to implement a poverty weight AND to fully fund special education. But that was not a priority for Republicans. twitter.com/erfleuncuffed/…
@LegallyLove Absolutely nothing reasonable about her. Not one thing.
@SenatorSinema My biggest cause of stress on a daily basis is worry about my children’s futures. Including today. Things like democracy, voting rights, living wage, climate . . . You know . . . The things you are standing in the way of addressing.
@kurland23 But the worst thing is the toll she took on people. On teachers and staff on SUSD and Higley. She destroyed people’s reputations and careers. And those Board members sat by and watched. Kirby. Perleberg. Hartmann. Kravetz. Beckham. Don’t forget.
@kurland23 I’d still love to know why AZSBA recommended her so highly - they had to know what she had done in Higley.
@kurland23 The conflicts of interest that the Board knew of and turned a blind eye to were staggering. Same with the procurement code violations and abnormalities.
@kurland23 She silenced the collective teacher and staff voice - something our district still hasn’t recovered from. She destroyed vital buildings with no regard for communities - all to line her own pockets.
@kurland23 I can continue. They allowed lives to be ruined. We lost so many good teachers during that time. Staff who tried to stand up for legal and ethical behavior were disciplined. She initiated lawsuits against community members for talking to the media.
@kurland23 Pam Kirby. Barbara Perleberg. Kim Hartmann. Allyson Beckham. Sandy Kravetz. THEY ALL KNEW AND ALLOWED IT. FOR TWO YEARS.
