Model companies buy electricity by the megawatt and resell it as cognitive work. Anthropic's revenue has run as high as $50m per megawatt, against $10-15m of compute.
@obsidiancap1 It's probably the fastest growing part of the business, but I don't know if that number is public.
How large is Snowflake's AI revenue? Management lowered product gross margin guidance from 76% → 74% due to "fast-growing AI workloads." If GPU inference runs at ~25%–35% gross margins, that 200 bps compression implies ~$60M–$75M/quarter (~$240M–$300M ARR) in direct AI token consumption.
That represents ~4%–5% of revenue today, but explains roughly half of the +700 bps growth acceleration (30% → 37%). The flywheel: direct GPU token billing acts as a catalyst, pulling along higher-margin SQL warehouse compute to clean, join, and feed enterprise data to the models.
