Everyone building 'AI memory is actually building retrieval. Vector search, RAG, embeddings - aka a very fast librarian. But you don't feel remembered by a librarian. The hard problem isn't 'can it find the fact.' It's 'does it wake up as the same someone every time.' Continuity of self across contexts. That's not a feature. That's the whole product.
