I know many progressives think there isn't a principle the right will stick to, but the entire movement—Ted Cruz, Tucker Carlson, Matt Walsh, and on and on—listened to Pam Bondi's hate speech comment and immediately replied "Fuck no."
Also whether censorship makes you a worse person or not, it is simply dangerous precedent for everyone. I defend my enemy's free speech in order to defend my own free speech.

I'm pro-free speech all the time, including and in particular for speech that is offensive and awful. I'm frustrated with how many people seem pro-free speech as long as it's not *too bad*, which seems to undermine the whole concept.

Okay, so basically everyone believes in cancel culture when their side is culturally ascendant. This is nice and will end well.
So apparently canceling is sort of a "ring of power" thing too. Just too tempting and powerful for the other side not to use it when the opportunity presents. And so it goes.
