Sometimes I'm asked for my coaching style. While I definitely have one to start, I usually half answer with "I thrive on feedback." But it's true- I tailor my style because I'm not a therapist, I'm here to serve YOU, not serve as an expert.
Life coaching is silly, there are grifters who call themselves coaches, I understand any skepticism and/or assumptions based on this job title. But once in awhile I wanna be like "DOES THE GENERATION WHO INVENTED THE 'DOLPHIN JERKOFF FOR NASA' JOB TITLE HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY"
I know some people balk at this, but personally: if you have to ask me my position on ANYTHING in order to trust me as a coach, I understand! Ask away. If a subject is gonna come up when we talk, or it belies a fundamental worldview, I can see why you'd want to know my opinion!
I HAVE been honest in the past and told clients when therapy would be better (& sometimes types of therapy I think may apply) It's benefitted me despite losing clients. Many of these former clients either return when what they need is more in my wheelhouse or they refer people!

Consultations are only 20 minutes but you know what they also are? Free! Particularly helpful if you need to figure out if coaching, therapy, or both are right for you bc I'll be honest if all or some of what you need is beyond my capabilities.

When I was working myself to death running multiple shows including a 1AM weekly, I always said "I never want to call in favors or spot trade. I just want to earn things through hard work." After years of actually seeing how comedy works, I'm an idiot, please pay it forward.
@Sparkcreativec1 Therapy-speak as a norm will explicitly alienate clientele genuinely in need of help instead of people seeking validation for their issues who have already pre-selected a bunch of things to tell their workers to build a narrative they control.

Anyone like me? Go on Netflix look at dozens of movies and shows.. Start watching a couple after about 20 minutes turn them off and go for a bike ride or something similar.. I'm thinking I might have ADHD.. Or is this normal? 👀
